Golf Swing Basics For Beginners - 3 Tips For Reducing Your Strokes

Many people think that golf is a complex sport. The truth is that it can actually be quite simple if you get down the basics. By following the golf swing basics, you can become much better at golf. The basics are similar for all golf players, but everyone is slightly different. You'll have to follow the golf swing basics while adapting it to your body in order to properly swing the golf club. If you practice and follow the fundamentals of golf, you'll eventually perfect and adapt your own golf swing. In this article, you will learn 3 of fundamentals are so that you can become a better player.

Golf Swing Basics #1: The Grip - The grip is one of the most important golf swing basics. Using a grip correctly will determine your success in hitting the ball far. Here are three of the most common grips:
Overlapping Grip - While both of your hands are on the golf club, the pinky of the right hand will lie on top of the index finger of the left hand. Many golfers use this because it requires good wrists and forearms.
Interlocking Grip - With both hands on the golf club, the index finger on the left hand and the pinky of the right hand interlock with each other. People that use this tend to have shorter or thick hands.
Baseball Grip - This is basically the way you would hold a baseball bat. Both of your hands will grasp the golf club, but they aren't interlocking or overlapping. This is the "oldest" grip method, and is commonly used by beginners. If you're new, you're probably already using this method!

Golf Swing Basics #2: Twist that Body - If you haven't already, you should know that all of your power is from your body rather than your arms. As you're twisting your body, you're creating potential energy. At the moment you make impact with the ball, your body's energy is released as kinetic energy, which sends it flying. This is much more effective than swinging with your arms! If you're not using your body, then you may find that this is one of the golf swing basics that is hard to adapt to at first. In order to practice this, get into a golf stance and don't move. Now, without doing a backswing, just use only your body to get the ball a tiny bit into the air. The only parts of yourself that should remain stiff in this exercise are your arms, hands, and wrists. Eventually you'll get the hang of moving the ball with your body, and then you could apply it with a backswing. Just do the same thing as before and use your body to get the ball into the air (of course, now that you're not in a training drill, you can move your arms as you swing).

Golf Swing Basics #3: Keep Your Hands Low - If you want to keep your shots' trajectory's low, then you should always remember to limit the height of your swings. By lowering the height of your follow-throughs, you will lower the height of your shots. You can always substitute this by moving the ball back or by using a different club, but it's not as reliable. This is one of the golf swing basics that will ensure you that your shot will go further.
