A person's hair is more than his or her crown of beauty. It is one of these important features that distinguishes one person from everyone else. A person's hair is actually one of the physical aspects of a person that gives them his or her own personality and identity.
Ever since people realized the importance of their hair, they have developed various ways, techniques, substances, and tools to tame this important aspect of their physique. People have colored their hair with various dyes. They have set and altered their natural hair form through various techniques and chemicals. The variety of hairstyles is virtually endless.
Hair styling has improved with technology, specifically through the invention and development of electrical devices. One of the most common device used for hair styling is a curling iron. A curling iron allows a person to easily give her hair soft, bouncy curls, albeit temporarily.
Because it is an electrical device, it also has the potential to be hazardous. True, many scalp injuries are the result of mishandling electrical hair-styling devices.
That is why when you use your curling iron with care to avoid inflicting injuries to yourself and other people in your household.
1. Do not take the appliance's manual for granted. Read the manual thoroughly before operating, especially on the features and safety tips.
2. Do not use the curling iron near water. Water acts as a very conductor, meaning, electricity can travel through water rather quickly. If you are standing or immersed in water and the curling iron falls on it, there is likely chance of the emergence of a complete circuit, electrocuting you.
That means you should not use while bathing.
3. Do not place the iron in a place where it would likely fall into the water, such as, a sink or a bathtub. If the appliance somehow drops into the water, unplug it immediately and do not reach into the water to pick it up.
4. A curling iron, even if turned off, is still live. Be sure to unplug it right after usage.
5. Never leave your curling iron unattended when it is operating or plugged in. Always keep the iron out of the reach of children.
6. Other than curling your hair, do not use your curling iron for any other purpose. Do not place other attachments to the device except for the ones provided by the manufacturer.
7. Never turn on or plug the device if it has a damaged cord or plug. Doing so can be dangerous; the warped wire can electrocute you if stepped on. Also, do not attempt to disassemble and repair the iron if it is not working. Take the iron to the nearest service facility for repair or adjustment.
8. Do not place any object inside the openings and the vents of the iron.
9. The iron is very hot when operating. Do not let the hot surface touch any part of your skin.
10. When storing the iron, do not wrap the cord tightly around it or twist it. This could lead to undue stress and can cause the cord to fray prematurely.
