Create a new catalog each season. Even if your products don't change every season like the clothing industry, this is when other companies are sending out catalogs so you should too. Get in when your competitors and other businesses are (or if you can, a few weeks earlier would be even better!). Change the graphics and font to reflect the season - heavier fonts and holiday graphics in the winter time and lighter fonts and summery graphics in the summertime.
Create a new catalog when you change or add major products. You want your customers to have the latest and greatest you have to offer, don't you?
Try to print many of your marketing materials at once for a discount. Generally, the more you print, the more you save. Proofread! Before you mail out your catalogs be sure to read it over carefully for any grammar or spelling mistakes. If readers see any grammatical or spelling errors, they're opinion of you and your products will go down.
