Beautify Your Body - Mouth and Cheeks

Move on to the mouth and cheeks, using gentle but firm movements.

Place one thumb on top of the other, and rest them both on the bridge of the nose for support. Gently stroke your ring fingers from the center of the mouth to each comer. Slowly introduce your second fingers, followed by your index fingers. Repeat across the upper lip, then on the lower lip.

Keeping your hands in the same position, use the tips of your index and second fingers to make circular pressures at the comers of the mouth. Circle in one direction then in the other, working slowly and deeply. Then work all around the mouth.

Support the right cheek with your right hand and make large circles with your left palm on the left cheek, working in a counterclockwise direction. Then swap sides so that you make circles with your right hand as your left hand remains stationary. Repeat several times, then rotate both hands alternately, applying more pressure on the upward movement.

Stroke out to the ears, then use your thumbs and fingertips to squeeze and rotate each ear, working systematically to cover the whole area. This can feel surprisingly soothing.

Eyes

The eyes can be one of the first areas to show the effects of aging. Work through the following steps to help combat the onset of laugh-lines and crows' feet.

Stroke your second and third fingers firmly over the eyebrows from the nose to the temples, then softly under the eyes back to the nose.

Now use your hands alternately so that one hand strokes over the eyebrow as the other strokes beneath the eye.

Place your second fingers on the corner of each of the eyes. With the second finger of your left hand, stroke under the eye, up and across the bridge of the nose and towards the right eye. When it meets your right hand, stroke it back under the right eye and across the left eyebrow. Repeat with your right hand.

Cross your thumbs for stability, and glide your ring fingers very gently over the eyelids from the center to the corners. Then apply gentle, circular pressures at the corners of the eyes, easing out any laughter lines.

Forehead

Round off your facial massage by performing these steps on your partner's forehead.

Stroke one hand after the other up the forehead into the hairline. Stroke slowly and hypnotically, making sure that your hands are relaxed. Although this may feel boring for you, the sheer repetitiveness makes it feel very relaxing for your partner.

Make circular pressures at the temples and all over the forehead. Start with your little fingers, then follow with each of your other fingers, experimenting with the speed, depth, and direction of the circles according to your partner's wishes.

To combat frown lines, place your hands across the forehead and press firmly with the first two fingers of each hand. Make zig-zagging strokes with your hands moving toward each other. Cover the whole forehead with this soft, scissoring action, varying the speed of the strokes, and concentrating on areas of tension.

Support the top of the head with one hand and make light, circular strokes at the bridge of the nose with the middle finger of your other hand. Gradually spiral up the center of the forehead with your finger and, when you reach the hairline, stroke your hand in a scooping movement, up into the hair. Repeat.

Place both your hands on the forehead, one on top of the other, and hold them in place for about a minute. Gradually release the pressure and then lift your hands away very slowly. This hold should leave your partner feeling calm and secure.

2 Beauty Exercise Tips That Help in Relieving IBS

Beauty tips are normally meant to enhance either your well-being or looks, so coming across some beauty tips that have helped me manage my IBS turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

The good thing about these tips is that they don't require much effort on your part, and can be carried out in the privacy of your own home. The best part about the tips is that they aren't gender-biased, so both sexes can enjoy the benefits and relief that come from them.

Conduct these tips on a regular basis and you will find, as I have, some relief from IBS.

Tip #1

Take a warm bath, at least once a day. In some Eastern cultures, it is normal practice to bathe in cold water, for it is believed that cold water invigorates and increases the blood circulation in one's body. I have found that warm water has its own benefits as well.

Stand under a warm shower for at least 3 minutes when you first get into the shower. Make sure that you direct most of the hot water to your stomach area. You may find yourself burping and feeling as if you need to get the gas that is building up in your body out.

If need be, gently pat your tummy area to help get the gas out. You may need to turn the shower off to do that. Once you feel that you have managed to get rid of the bloated feeling, you can continue with the rest of your shower.

For maximum impact, I normally repeat the process the last three minutes of the shower again.

When you take your shower is also important. I normally take a shower before I have my meal. Some Eastern cultures believe that if you take a shower immediately after a meal, gas tends to build up in your stomach. People who are IBS prone should take showers at least one hour after a meal, and ideally showers should be taken before and not after a meal.

This tip has also helped me when I find myself bloated and in need of immediate relief.

Tip #2

Give your tummy a gentle massage before you go to bed. Lie down and gently massage your tummy in a circular clock-wise direction using aromatherapy oils. Massage for about 2-3 minutes, and then remain lying down, taking several deep and slow breaths. Then sit up and gently pat your tummy. You will find yourself burping. Allow the release of gas, and continue to gently pat your stomach.

This tip has also helped me when I feel bloated and need immediate relief. It is also believed that massaging your tummy in a clock-wise direction aids in bowel movement. Make sure that you do not massage your tummy if you have just had a meal.

Carry out the two tips mentioned here on a daily basis, and you will find that the gas that builds up in your tummy will be released, offering you some relief from IBS.

Building Muscle & Burning Fat Fast - 5 Simple Nutrition Tips

I'm going to tell you exactly how and why food is a critical factor for increasing muscle strength, size and burning fat. I think it's safe to say that everyone who reads this article knows that food is important for achieving their training goals, whether to build muscle, lose fat or both. Everybody knows you need carbohydrate energy for workouts and you need protein for muscle recovery and repair. However, what most people don't know is that you can't just haphazardly go about about your muscle building nutrition. For example... What to eat, how much to eat, in what combinations, pre workout eating, post workout eating and meal timing can be tricky until you learn how to do it automatically. With this in mind, here are five expert nutrition tips for building muscle and burning fat fast:

1) Eat Enough Quality Food

Food is anabolic by nature's design, meaning it builds, repairs and nourishes body tissue. According to new research studies, just eating enough of the right foods will help you build new muscle - even without working out. How great is that? You will need to eat approximately 500 extra calories per day over your daily caloric maintenance requirement to add a pound of muscle per week. Similarly, to lose one pound of fat per week you will need to eat 500 less calories per day. Keep in mind that when you add a pound or lose a pound, it's going to be a mix of both fat and lean muscle tissue. The human body does not exclusively lose or gain fat and lean muscle. It's almost always a mix. Your goal is to minimize lean tissue loss when losing fat and minimize the fat gained when building muscle. By consuming most of your extra calories in protein and complex carbohydrates you put the odds in your favor for muscle building. Similarly, when trying to lose fat, make sure you have ample protein in your diet to minimize lean muscle loss.

2) Eat 5-6 Smaller Meals a Day

You should eat your first meal or snack within 1 hour of rising. better yet, eat as soon as you rise. After that, space your meals and snacks 2-3 hours apart throughout your day. This is the most efficient way of eating because you feed your body just the right amount of calories to stay energized and in an anabolic state - to build muscle and burn fat. Your meals should be about 3/4 the size (calories) of a standard meal. Snacks are a little smaller than meals and are typically convenience-oriented, such as protein shakes, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese, whole-grain snack bars & cereals, fruits and vegetables.

3) Center Meals & Snacks Around Quality Protein

I hate counting calories, carbohydrates and protein. By simply centering your meals and snacks around a solid portion of quality protein, your body will be more forgiving if you eattoo much or too little food. For example, some excess "good food" calories will be used to build muscle along with a little bit of fat. When you gain muscle, you always gain some fat too. This is a FACT no matter what the other gurus say. The human body cannot efficiently build muscle and burn fat simultaneously.

While carbohydrates are important, you don't need them in every snack or meal. They are most important in the first half or two thirds of your day and before and after training. However, your body does need protein every 2-3 hours while you're awake and before and after training if it is expected to grow muscle. According to the Journal of Applied Physiology, you should consume 1.0 gram of protein per pound of body weight. That ensures you have a good pool of amino acids for your muscles to use for repair and growth.

4) Don't Fear Fat!

When I was a competitive fitness athlete and natural bodybuilder in the 1990's, I subscribed to the "low fat" theory of weight management. Back then fat was the enemy. I did everything to avoid it. And though I did reduce my body fat percentage to an insane level -- 3.5% -- I did so at a cost to my health and muscle size.3.5% body fat is not healthy for a couple of reasons: First, your body needs more fat to cushion organs. Second, fat is needed for various biological processes that rely on it -- such as absorbing fat-soluble vitamins and releasing testosterone and growth hormone.

With regard to building muscle, I was cheating myself out of bigger gains by following the low fat eating theory. That's because your body needs fat to release testosterone and growth hormone to levels required for muscle building. Don't make the mistake I made years ago with ultra low fat dieting. Depending on your goals, shoot for approximately 25-30% fat in your diet with the rest coming from protein, carbohydrates and fiber.

5) Glycemic Index Made Easy

For most of your meals and snacks you should be eating a mix of protein, carbohydrates, fats and fiber. This will promote an even flow of calories into your bloodstream for sustained energy throughout the day. It will also ensure that your blood sugar does not spike, which will prevent you from gaining fat. And because you're centering meals around protein, you raise your metabolism. That's because protein has a high thermic value... That means your body must use more calories (energy) to digest proteins compared to what it uses to digest carbohydrates and fats. The mere, involuntary act of digestion is calorie-dependent and much more so when you eat protein.

So there you have it... Five important nutrition tips for building muscle and burningfat fast.

These guidelines can help you get the most out of your kettlebell exercise routine. The following 15 tips will teach you the proper number of reps and sets to perform, when to work out, and what kind of workouts will sculpt the body you desire.

  • Train two to seven times a week. You must train on a regular basis if you wish to see any benefits. This should be a give-me, but many people look for push-button solutions. In the world of exercise, those buttons do not exist.
  • Work out for 45 minutes or less and you'll see the best results. Doing a few reps and then quitting won't get you anywhere. At the same time, you need to make sure you do not train for too long either. Working out for too long can actually make your exercise program less effective as various hormones in your body drop from peak levels after about 45 minutes of working out.
  • Total workout time should be altered. Keep your body guessing by switching things up every now and then. Increase your workout intensity by completing your exercises in 20 minutes one day and then taking it a little easier the next day by taking 40 minutes.
  • Perform as many exercises as you wish. You can do as many different kettlebell exercises as you wish. If you hit the whole body, make sure you're eating right to supply your body with the proper nutrients for the quickest recovery.
  • Vary the intensity of each exercise You don't have to hit every exercise super hard. Do a few intensely and a few with less intensity. This is similar to changing the time of your work outs. You'll adapt to different lifting situations do to this and you'll also fight off boredom more easily by having a more dynamic workout routine.
  • String exercises together in a circuit. Circuit training consists of performing an exercise, resting, performing a different one, resting, and repeating the sequence until the total number of sets is completed for each exercise. Circuit training will increase your strength and endurance levels.
  • Rest between your sets. You'll want to make sure your muscles are ready to go when you start each set. Make sure you rest at least 1 minute between each set.
  • Hurrying through strength exercises can spell disaster You want to get strong, but have some patience. Injuring yourself because you wanted to go too quickly and got sloppy is a sure fire way to hinder your progress. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare: "slow and steady wins the race".
  • Shorten the rest time for endurance training. When you are working on your endurance levels, you may want to compress your rest periods. Remember, you do not want to be in a hurry when strength training though.
  • Start hard. Finish easy. Starting your session with the hard exercises. Doing this will ensure you are at your freshest so that you have the coordination and strength to complete the exercises in good form.
  • Lift your kettlebells before endurance exercises.Do as many sets as you wish. If you can do 500 sets, the more power to you. In most cases, however, you'll probably be wanting to perform 3 to 20 sets per exercise. You'll also want to vary the number of sets each time you work out. If you have only one kettlebell, try to add on a few more sets each time you work out.
  • Do not go to muscle failure. Some high intensity routines recommend you work a muscle to failure to damage your muscles as much as possible. The idea is that your muscles will be stimulated to repair themselves much more and you'll become much bigger. The goal with kettlebells is not to become big, but to have functional, whole body strength and endurance. Working out to muscle failure also increases the chance you'll go out of form, hurt yourself, or drop your weight on yourself. Either way, not pretty!
  • Do not do more than 5 reps per set with presses and side bends. Presses and side bends are difficult exercises to begin with. Doing more reps increases the chance you'll use poor form. Increase difficulty by using a heavier kettlebell. If you do not own a heavier kettlebell, compress rest period or perform more sets of 5 reps. You may also select a more difficult exercise, move slower, and pause at different points.
  • Cleans and jerks can be performed all day long, if you can handle it. You can do these exercises with sets of 1 to 100 reps. You'll want to leave these exercises for the end of your routine though, as they will tire you out and would impact your strength exercises.

Angela's Workout Secrets Revealed

Summer usually means going to the beach or simply hanging out somewhere where there's a pool. I believe that this season needs preparation, lots of it actually.

I would like to introduce you to my friend Angela who is a model and an actress. She is also one of my good and supportive clients and I'm here to tell you about her workout regimen.

Here's a sample one- week program I designed for Angela:

Monday: 45 MINUTES

30 minutes on the treadmill: constant change up every 2-3 minutes---lunges, running, jogging, walking, side lunges (Talking about interval training at its best)
15 minutes: constant timed intervals focusing on the whole body using resistance bands, body bar and swiss ball (Angela does not like using machines)

Tuesday: BOXING DAY 1 HOUR

Interval Shadow boxing with hand weights
6- 8 rounds of mitt work
5 minutes full body plyometrics
2 rounds interval jump ropes
Intense full abdominal work: 50- 100 repetitions per exercise (10 exercises)

Wednesday: 20 MINUTES

Swimming day: 10 laps freestyle, 10 laps side stroke, 10 laps back stroke, 10 laps breast stroke (she doesn't know how to do butterflies)

Thursday: BOXING DAY 1 HOUR

5 rounds: heavy bag drills (speed and power every 30 seconds)
5 rounds: mitt work (focusing on speed and power)
3 rounds burpees: 30secs burpees, 30secs shadow boxing then switch)
Intense full abdominal workout: slow and controlled movements (75reps each exercise)

Friday: 45 MINUTES

Purification Therapies:
Ayurveda views poor metabolism as the key to the build up of toxins or ama which is the cause of many complex diseases. Periodic Panchakarma treatments prove to be highly effective in eliminating this ama produced during metabolic process and also the impurities accumulated in the body. These panchakarma treatments help the body to release and eliminate toxins completely and to rebalance the doshas that have gone out of balance due to the accumulation of toxins and metabolic wastes.

Panchakarma is a group of 5 treatments- vamana, virechana, snehavasti, kashayavasti and nasya - of which all are not commonly practiced for all diseases. Vamana is emesis, virechana is purging, vasti is enema- which of two kinds done with medicated oils and medicated decoctions and are called snehavasti and kashayavasti respectively. Nasya is instillation of medicines through nose. Susrutha who initiated surgery gives importance to blood-letting also as one of the panchakarma treatments.

Panchakarma treatments are effective both for preventive and curative purposes as well as for ukhachikalsa (Rejuvenation and energizing the body). However, if these panchakarma treatments are not taken at full length and under the proper guidance of Ayurveda doctors, it can damage the body tissues.

Panchakarma is much more than a cleansing regimen. It slows down aging process, strengthens immune system, prevents wrinkles of skin, develops a positive attitude to life, improves digestion and appetite, improve sleep pattern, energizes the body, replaces stress and strain with peace and tranquility, enhances flexibility of joints and muscles, reduce weight, removes fat and help live healthy.

Panchakarma has three phases of actions:

1 Pre-purification phase:

Sirodhara Luke warm herbal oil is poured in a continuous stream onto the forehead, while receiving a gentle massage on the fore head.

Snehapanam is the oral intake of specially prepared medicated ghee (clarified butter) in empty stomach. It is done to lubricate all body channels to push out body toxins.

Thailadhara is a continuous showering and massaging process of the whole body with warm medicated oil. This activates the muscles and nerve endings.

Thakradhara induces coolness to the brain, relaxes the mind, reduces mental stress and increase memory power.Thakradhara means the profuse pouring of medicine-rich buttermilk on the person's forehead.

Thalam treats headaches, cerebrum-vascular diseases, insomnia, ENT diseases, vertigo etc

In Thalapothichil the person's scalp is completely applied with high value medicinal pastes. Heals problems related to the head and neck regions.

Udvarthanam This is a typical deep and dry massage using herbal powders. This massage stimulates hair follicles and subcutaneous fat tissue to break down subcutaneous fat storage.

Upanahasweda comprises of the local application of a medicinal paste to treat pain and swelling.

2. Main purification phase

This phase comprises the Panchakarma. Depending on the ailments, one is advised to undergo two or three of the Panchakarma therapies. The doctor decides on the type of treatments suitable for a particular type of person. Ayurveda doctors have to monitor these treatments. Treatments without expert guidance can lead to complications.

Vamanam

Vamanam is induced vomiting and is the first in panchakarma treatments. This process is to be done carefully and needs skilled personnel. It induces expulsion of the contents in the stomach through the mouth. Kapha or kapha dominant diseases like psoriasis, urticaria, bronchial asthma, mental disorders etc can be effectively treated by vamanm treatments. Besides, it also removes wastes from the upper body parts like the chest and lungs area. It is a very effective form of panchakarma treatment.

Vamanam is a continuation of the sneha sweda done the previous day. After administering sneha sweda, the patient is given kapha increasing foods. The next morning, after ablutions and a hot water bath, the patient would be asked to sit in a relaxed manner in an armchair. Milk or sugar cane juice is commonly used for this purpose. The patient drinks as much milk as he can. Then a paste of madana phala, along with yashtimadhu powder vacha, rock salt and honey mixed with milk would be given. Within a short time, the patient feels nauseous and starts vomiting. All impure accumulated kapha will come out. Normally eight bouts are seen. Vomiting is stopped when the pitta or yellow colouration is seen, which is considered the correct symptom. If the bouts are less, vomiting should be by irritating the uvula by touching with the figers or a quill. Then allow the patient to wash his face and fingers with hot water.

Then dhoomapana is done. The smoke should be inhaled through one nostril and exhaled through the mouth which is repeated thrice.

This is followed by paschat-karma. These are mainly food restrictions, called samsarjana kriya. Just after vamana, if the patient is hungry, thin gruel is given. After ascertaining the digestive power, thick gruel, porridge, porridge with meat soup are given. The entire treatment takes 15 days.

However, vamanam is not advisable for pregnant women, the aged , the weak and those suffering from cardiac problems.

Virechanam

Virechanam in panchakarma is a purgation treatment using herbal medicines. It expels impurities from mid zones of the body like the liver, gallbladder and the intestinal tract. Pitta and pitta dominant diseases are cured by this pancha karma treatment. In virechanam, the vitiated doshas are made to pass through the anus. Poorvakarma as done in vamana is also done in virechanam. Though several drugs are mentioned for virechana, trivrit is considered the best and several trivrit combinations are used. It is to be noted that the medicine is given only when the last meal has been digested. Avipathy churna, another medicine, mixed with hot water is given after 9 a.m. No food is given till virechana is over. In proper virechana, the patient passes urine, stool, pitta, medicine, kapha and vata in that order. About 20 purges may be seen . However, it all depends on the patient's health.

Another mild form of virechana is also used an ayurvedic therapy. It is commonly used to treat various kinds of ailments in which poorvakarma are not necessary.

Kashaya vasti Diseases like hemiplegia and those due to vata are treated well with vasti. However, acute diarrheas, chest lesions, piles, hiccups, are not treated. For kashaya vasti, honey, rock salt, sneham, paste of medicines are required and is mixed one by one in the above order. An emulsion is made by churning all and warming in a water bath. This should be taken on an empty stomach at about 10 a.m. Application is the same as snehavasti. When the bowels are clear, the patient is allowed to take a hot water bath. This should be done after two or three snehavastis. Sneham, paste of medicines and kashayam noted above are selected as per disease and stage.

Nasyam

Nasyam in ayurveda refers to the instillation of medicated oil through the nose. It is the best procedure for the treatment of sirorogas i.e., sodhana of urdhvanga.Nasyam helps to discard the mucous toxins from head and neck channels.

In Pancha karma therapy, nasyam treatment involves application of warm oil to the shoulder and neck of the patient with the patient lying supine and tips his head back. Lightly warmed oil is dropped into each nostril. The patient should inhale deeply. The usual dose is 8 drops but this varies according to the disease and its nature. The timings are morning in kapha diseases, noon in pitta diseases and evening in vata diseases. After the nasya, the shoulder, face, palm and sole of limbs should be massaged briskly for few minutes. Dhoomapana and gargling with hot water should be done afterwards. Nasya should not be done continuously for more than seven days.

Vasthi

The most important of the therapies in Panchakarma involves the introduction of herbal oils and decoctions into the colon through the rectum.

Kateevasthi

Is a warm oil treatment done by retaining certain amount of warm medicated oil on the lower back of the body, for about 40 to 50 minutes. 3. The Post purification phase

Once the Panchakarma treatments are over, rehabilitative measures are given which include guidelines on diet, lifestyle and other things. If not followed the effects of the treatments would diminish. Doctors prescribe various Ayurveda formulations such as kashayams lehyams etc. to fortify body cells and tissues, massage oils and kuzhambu for body and joint lubrication.

Rasayana or Rejuvenation Therapy

Rasayana therapy is followed along with the Panchakarma treatments or afterwards. For getting maximum results out of the Rasayana therapy, the two main forms oushadh (Medicines) and Acharyas (Behavior/deeds) need to be followed. Medicines and diet prescribed by doctors have to be taken and these have effects on the body tissues, digestive juices, doshas etc, while the behavior or habit of a person influences the mind, soul and sensory faculties.

Ayurveda offers extensive Rasayana therapies. The aim of Rasayana is to keep the enzymes in the tissue cells in their normal functioning condition. It nourishes, restores and balances the body functions and maintains the overall health and well being of an individual. Mind is made calm and peaceful, nerves and bones are kept soft and sooth. These, to a very large extend, prevent the ageing process and also free the person from diseases even during an old age.
