If exercise were a pill, everybody would take it. Just thinking and wanting to "get in shape" is not enough. Whether it is for a greater sense of well-being, improved mental health, staying healthy and preventing disease, or the fun of physical activities, most of us have to work at being physically active in order to achieve the fit body we desire, and the health and well-being that coincides with that.
Whether you choose to believe it or not, there are no quick fixes, no overnight successes. The truth is, it takes time and concerted effort to achieve a fit and healthful body. You need to understand that it requires a lifestyle change, a behavior that needs to be developed as it becomes a habit that lasts you over the long-term. Therefore, fitness exercise programs fail primarily because most people don't follow through.
We abandon our fitness exercise programs because it doesn't fit into our lifestyle, because we aren't mentally prepared, and because we don't know the proper methods. Most of us do not have faith in our end result (i.e., our "outcome" goal) - for example a lean, firm body - and cannot envision it or use that as motivation. Therefore, don't you think it is time to approach a program in the most efficient and effective way possible?
You need a plan of action. The purpose of planning is to provide direction, meaning, and purpose; make decisions that positively affect your future; focus your energies on what's most important; achieve results in the shortest period of time (after all, isn't that what it is all about?); and eliminate uncertainty, anxiety, doubt and fear.
After creating your plan of action, you will end up with a path to follow, which provides specific decisions and actions that shape and guide where you are going, and how, when, and why you do it. You will become more focused, and be more productive.
