So you've decided to get a tattoo. And now you are face with this question, what design will I go for? Even if you already have a message or idea that you want to convey, you still have to choose whether to go for a symbol, an image or lettering. The hardest part is there are thousands of choices out there that sometimes, it's difficult what to go for or where to settle. This is totally normal especially if this is your first tattoo. Of course, tattoos are forever so that makes it even harder to decide. You do not want to get inked with something that you will regret in the end. These are some helpful tips to consider when making this decision:
1. Always remember that a tattoo is permanent. This should be always on the top of your mind when choosing a design. Never think of it as something that you can change later on as this would mean more pain and money. Think of a design that you know you can live with in your entire lifetime.
2. Consider a design that will stand the test of time, trend and fashion. Imagine yourself sporting that tattoo years from now, maybe you are applying for a job already, or being a father to your kids or when you are out on a date with the love of your life. That tattoo should still be applicable and acceptable in whatever endeavors or path you go through in your life.
3. With the loads of choices available, it is best not to limit yourself especially if you are a tattoo newbie. Explore and wander around and then narrow down your choices.
4. Although a lot of people are doing this, its not always advisable to jump into the bandwagon of having your significant other's name tattooed on you. This is the most common reason why most people regret their tattoo as relationships are not permanent, but tattoos are.
5. Don't choose a design that you don't understand or does not have a meaning at all to you. What makes tattoo great is the fact that it is a reflection of who you are or a representation of something you love, admire or believe in. Explaining to other people what that tattoo means to you makes it even interesting and attractive.
6. Lastly, don't let somebody else choose the design for you, not your friends, your loved ones, not even your tattoo artist. The only one that should be making this choice is you and only you. You need to satisfy yourself and not other people since it is your body that will be permanently embedded with that ink. You can ask for opinions or suggestions but always make sure that in the end, the final decision would be yours.
