Ever since this physically fit fella made the movie "The Last Dragon" back in 1985, I have to give him his props when they are due. Little did I know myself Taimak was only twenty one years old when he made the movie, co-starring Julius Carry III, who played "Shonuff". Almost 25 years later, you wonder..."where are they now"? I'm not too sure about Julius Carry, but I know for sure Taimak is still on top of his game, dotting all of his I's and crossing all of his T's!
Since his first starring role, produced by Berry Gordy and Tri Star Pictures, Taimak has been keeping a humble discipline instilled on maintaining a positive lifestyle. He exercises daily, which is showing gladly, even in his mid 40's. Taimak practiced martial arts for over two decades, which he's never lost his touch. Some actors act like they know karate or ju jitsu just to act out the part in the movie, but Taimak will definitely show you a thing or 2 off screen! In fact, his fitness intelligence is so versatile that he can show you how to lose weight and stay in great shape, by incorporating martial arts with exercise. As we all know, all forms of martial arts is a creative way of performing cardiovascular workouts, while enhancing your joints and muscles never worked before to stretch in ways unimagined.
I also found Taimak's fitness videos to be quite educational. It's not traditional fluff with some commercialized exercise videos. The thing I admire about Taimak is not only did he stay in shape for over twenty years, but he puts emotion into his videos. He truly helps folk who are struggling with weight issues feel good about working out again. In addition, Taimak gives you the inside skinny on what to eat, what times are best to eat, when to perform cardio and more. Cardiovascular workouts do not always consist of running, or jogging on a treadmill being bored. The best way to perform a cardio workout is walking, and to carry a Walkman with you and listen to music. This way, your mind will be distracted from the length of time it is taking in performing that strenuous workout.
I would've never imagined Taimak would still be around two decades later still on his "A Game", but he truthfully is. In fact, he has a Myspace page where you can preview snippets of his "fitness dvd" . He also socializes on the popular social network MySpace about helping others do positive things, such as staying in shape.
Taimak is commended by me, Shawn Drewry, for instilling discipline into his life for the things he truly loves to do. Taimak has also motivated me to get back in shape and to tell others about the good things he is doing nowadays!
