Nottingham is probably best-known as the setting for the legend of Robin Hood, an outlaw who, according to medieval ballads, lived in Sherwood Forest. However, Nottingham's real-life famous residents have included ice skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, satirist John Bird and author Alan Sillitoe.
Nottingham is an excellent place to live. The city's shopping centres such as The Victoria Centre, an indoor complex which has more than 120 shops, and Broadmarsh, which has more than 80 stores, attract millions of visitors each year. Nottingham has many restaurants and cafes, together with famous sporting venues such as Trent Bridge, home to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, the National Ice Centre and Nottingham Racecourse.
